 You are here: Home | 2009 Search Trip | Lt. Lillard, VF-20, F6F-5 Hellcat Locating the Lt. Lillard, VF-20, F6F-5 Hellcat In August 2009 we located the likely crash site of the Lt. Lillard, VF-20, F6F-5 Hellcat. Lt. Lillard's plane was shot down over the Japanese held Yap airfield on November 22, 1944. Lt. Lillard has never been located and is still listed as missing in action. We located part of the plane and plan to return in 2010 to locate the rest of the wreckage.
