Japanese Model 10 (1921) 12-cm naval AA guns on Yap Island

We took the following pictures of Japanese AA guns located on the west side of the new Yap Island airport. During the war the guns were located northwest of old Japanese airfield. Many of the guns are still located in the protective pits the Japanese dug to conceal the guns from American attacks. The AA guns were disabled by the American forces when they took over the island in the fall of 1945. In addition, we found additional Japanese guns, ammunition, and other ware materials dumped off the harbor channels in about 100-150 feet of water.

Yukitoshi from Japan provided the following details: The AA guns are "Model 10 (1921) 12-cm naval AA gun". Some guns same type exist in Guam.

  • Hilton Guam Resort & Spa - 1 gun
  • Fujita Guam Tumon Beach Hotel - 1 gun
  • Black Construction Corporation - 2 guns

Please feel free to submit comments about the pictures to help identify the AA guns. Send emails to Pat at: pat@missingaircrew.com
