Two Unidentified 18 Cylinder Engines-Assumed to be Japanese

While searching for an American Corsair crash site off the west side of the island we discovered two engines inside the reef. The engines were located about 200-300 yards apart. Both engines are 18 cylinder engines with two rows of nine cylinders. My initial thoughts were that the engines are from a Japanese twin engine aircraft, however, we did not locate more than a few pieces of additional wreckage. The Yapese advised the wreckage from the aircraft has been destroyed by the surf and storms over the years. We found a small piece of wreckage near the engines include a rippled floor board that resembles an interior floor panel from a Japanese plane.
