2nd Lt. Martin B. Unger Home Movie—Short Version

The following home movie is courtesy of Martin Unger's sister, Cecile. The home video shows Martin home in New York City with his sisters and wife right before he departed for the pacific. The home movie brings the Coleman Crew history to life by showing Martin in real life and not just a name on a list of missing men from WWII. The movie clip helps us bring the memories of Martin back from January 1944.

The following video file will take 4-8 minutes or more to
download and play with a high speed internet connection. Patience is a virtue.

Martin's sister Cecile (age 21 in the movie clip) made the following comment after viewing the clip for the first time in 60 years: " Seeing the film brought back so many memories to me. I remember how excited we all were to be together as we hadn't been for so long and even though we knew that Martin was soon to go into combat, none of us imagined that he would never come home. In retrospect, I think those kind of thoughts occurred to him because he was more serious than usual, not joking around as he often did. It is interesting that many of his letters reflected his response to that last family visit. He seemed to be very concerned about our grandparents--more than he usually was. I think that that day was very important to him. Thank you for making it possible for me to relive, what turned out to be a very important day.

A big thanks to my neighbor, Kevin O'Brien from Shoreview, MN, for taking time to help me locate a projector to run the old reel of film and digitally record it for this web site. Kevin has helped me with a number of film and video projects.
