I was contacted by Alan Cody regarding the Lt. Kizer B-24 crew (MACR # 10486), http://www.missingaircrew.com/yap/mac/15july1944.asp . Lt. Kizer had the bad luck being down twice in a four month period. On July 15, 1944 his plane went down in the ocean after bombing Yap Island. Five of the eleven crew members were rescued within a few days including Lt. Kizer. One of the crew members, Sgt. Hilary Gilbert, was rescued from the Lt. Kizer Crew crash July 15, 1944 and then shot down a second time with the Lt. Anthony crew over Yap less than a month later on August 10, 1944, http://www.missingaircrew.com/yap/mac/10aug1944.asp. Lt. Kizer began flying missions after his July 15 rescue and was lost with his new crew in October 1944 over Borneo. I located a booklet about the father of one of Lt. Kizer's crew members who tried to search for his son after the war ended. The booklet can be viewed at http://www.missingaircrew.com/307/foster/. Back to Alan Cody. Alan's mother was engaged to Lt. Gayle Wayne Kizer. They were from Apache, Oklahoma. Lt. Kizer was an only child. After Lt. Kizer's loss Alan's mother married his father, however, the Lt. Kizer's mother and father still came to visit his family and treated his mother like the daughter-in-law they never had. Lt. Kizer's parents were devastated by the loss of their only child.. Due to fate, Alan's mother married his father. He has always had a strong interest in the missing Kizer crew. Always interesting hearing the stories that make the Yap losses we have been researching so personal and touching even after seventy years. -Pat
