Interesting development! Someone sent me a picture of a pair of dog tags he purchased at an auction. The dog tags are from a Yap MIA crew member, Edgar R. Norcross, who was shot down with three other Marine's over Yap Island on March 16, 1945 in a TBM-3. The person who purchased the tags has no idea where they came from since he does not recall the seller. At the end of the war only one of the three crew members bodies was identified and returned home (Kenneth Gillispie). Edgar and the pilot, Joseph Crowley, remain missing in action, however, we have located files that document additional remains from the crash site were buried in an unidentified grave in the American cemetery in the Philippines after the war. The military collector who purchase the dog tags has very graciously offered them to the Norcross family at no cost. Here's part of his email:
"I highly respect the work you are doing with the Yap Island Project. I know you have put a lot of work into this and I'am sure the family's of these men are grateful to you also.Pat, after our correspondence over the past week and knowing what this would mean to the family I could never sell these Tags. He gave his life for his country and the least I can do is to pass these along to his Family. They may would like to keep one of the tags and frame it with a photo of Edgar and have the other with chain unturned with his remains."
