The family of Ens. Delbert LaRue Martin supplied pictures. Ens. Martin was shot down over Yap Island on March 21, 1945. Although he was with the VF-12 squadron from the USS Randolph, he flew his fateful Yap mission from the Marine Air Base on Ulithi Island after the USS Randolph was damaged by a kamikaze attack in the Ulithi harbor the March 13, 1945. I found documents at the national archives from 1945 and 1947 that clearly document that the US military found and identified his remains, however, due to a series of mistakes and oversights his family never knew his remains were recovered and subsequently buried in an unmarked grave in the American cemetery in the Philippines (X397). I believe the family has a very good case to have his remains returned to the family for burial in the US. More information can be viewed at: http://www.missingaircrew.com/yap/mac/21march1945.asp
