Re: Japanese engine found in a stream

The pictures at the following link were taken of a Japanese engine found in a stream between the revetment area and the main Yap airstrip used during the war. I have not identified the plane type at this time. Please feel free to submit comments about the pictures so we can identify the plane type. Send emails to Pat at: pat@missingaircrew.com

Although I originally thought the engine was Japanese, the numbers on the exhuast clamp were confusing. The exhuast clamp has the numbers F6 and 1709 stamped in the metal. Any ideas?

More coming soon,

From what I can see it looks like a Najajma Sakae Model 21 1130HP Engine. Probably the exhaust coupling was just stamped in regular numbers.

went to enginehistory.org and they show a nameplate from a sakae 21 and right on top is a big 100. So maybe Japanese wrote their numbers like us some of the time.
